Position Overview

The Milling Crew Laborer is responsible for safely performing a variety of construction duties to assist the milling, highway, utility, grade crews or at various on-site plant locations.
This position involves various manual task and will be performed per the instructions of the supervisor.

Pay ranges from $21 to $25 an hour, based on experience.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Performs labor tasks around the mill.
  • Assists in shoveling, sweeping, raking, and lifting milled asphalt.
  • Operates broom and skid steer to clean up milled surfaces.
  • Lift, carry, and transfer materials and tools.
  • Greases moving machine parts.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Dig, spread, and level asphalt materials.
  • Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • 1 year experience and/or training in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a road construction industry preferred.

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary; some overnight travel may be required.
  • Required to wear PPE in designated operations and production areas stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to work around heavy equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use arms and hands hands.
  • The employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.
  • Must be able to exert 10-20 lbs.
    constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs.
    of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs.
    of force occasionally.
