Position Overview
The Milling Crew Laborer is responsible for safely performing a variety of construction duties to assist the milling, highway, utility, grade crews or at various on-site plant locations.
This position involves various manual task and will be performed per the instructions of the supervisor.
Pay ranges from $21 to $25 an hour, based on experience.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Performs labor tasks around the mill.
- Assists in shoveling, sweeping, raking, and lifting milled asphalt.
- Operates broom and skid steer to clean up milled surfaces.
- Lift, carry, and transfer materials and tools.
- Greases moving machine parts.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
- Dig, spread, and level asphalt materials.
- Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- 1 year experience and/or training in a related field preferred.
- Experience in a road construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary; some overnight travel may be required.
- Required to wear PPE in designated operations and production areas stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to work around heavy equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements

- Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use arms and hands hands.
