Health Technician

The primary function of this position is to perform a wide range of clinical duties as assigned in order to assist Nursing staff in relation to clinic flow. The incumbent assists in basic clinical functions in order to support daily clinical operations to included, but not limited to:
Screens patients by obtaining vital signs, complaints, and by observing the patient's condition, behavior, attitude, and records appropriately. Assist with clinic flow as needed; answers phone, directs patients to appropriate areas, relays appropriate information to Nursing and Physician staff, and prepares patient examination areas. Properly stocks and maintains OPL/Clinic rooms with supplies and organized instruments and equipment as instructed. Performs blood collection using a variety of phlebotomy techniques including vacutainer system, syringe, butterfly or capillary finger sticks. Correctly labels all blood tubes, instructs patients on proper specimen collection procedures and provide service in a friendly, compassionate, veteran centric manner. Verifies and evaluates physician generated test orders for these specimens in VISTA, generates bar coded patient identification labels with laboratory testing accession numbers. Collects timed specimens such as growth hormone, peak and trough drug levels, and glucose and lactose tolerance specimens Assists in teaching laboratory and CBOC personnel theoretical and practical aspects of phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen requirements. Receives, validates, processes specimens brought to the laboratory for testing. Verifies equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting. For positions up to GS-5, candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. GS-05 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
collecting/handling blood specimens, following standard collection protocols, verifying patient information prior to blood draw, selecting correct tubing for specific tests. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Physical Requirements:
The position primarily involves work performed in both sitting and standing positions. Standing and bending for a prolonged period of time, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds, kneeling, and some climbing of stairs may be required. The work requires manual dexterity, a large degree of concentration, and working at top speed for several hours at a time. The ability to distinguish colors and color intensity is required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
